Hermetism is the basis of the Western esoteric tradition. The lineage traces its roots back to the temples of ancient Egypt and even to the legendary Atlantis. It influenced Greek philosophers, Roman emperors, and Christian Gnostics. It brought us the Renaissance and Enlightenment. All modern elites know and use it.
Almost every scientist, philosopher, or leader in the West was either influenced by hermetic principles or discovered them on their own, thus adding to their universal validity. They form the spine of the perennial philosophy in all its manifestations.
The Hermetic principles are a key before which all the doors of the temple open swinging. All mages see them operate in the world and use them to their advantage.
Mentalism
“All that we are is the result of what we have thought. The mind is everything. What we think we become.”
- Buddha
“I regard consciousness as fundamental. I regard matter as derivative from consciousness.”
- Max Planck
The universe is created and governed by the mind, within the mind, and from the mind. Thoughts have the power to shape reality. Reality, including the mind - is a construct of the mind, not unlike a dream. The term awakening implies becoming lucid in and of this dream and taking conscious control of it by taking control of one’s mind. Metalism defines the game.
Correspondence
“There is only one miracle but it is a fractal.”
- R.A.DelmonicoAs above, so below. As within so without.
- Tabula Smaragdina
There is a correspondence between the microcosm and the macrocosm; what occurs in the individual’s inner world is reflected in the outer world. This is true on all levels of abstraction - self-similarity runs through all. Change your mind and change your dream.
Vibration
“If you wish to understand the universe, think in terms of energy, frequency, and vibration."
- Nikola Tesla
"Everything is energy and that's all there is to it. Match the frequency of the reality you want and you cannot help but get that reality. It can be no other way. This is not philosophy. This is physics.”
- Albert Einstein
Everything in the universe is in a state of vibration, and the level of vibration determines the nature of the thing. Everything is but a vibration of the quantum field. Your very thoughts are manifested as brainwaves. Nothing ever rests. The only constant is eternal change.
Polarity
“Both matter and radiation possess a remarkable duality of character, as they sometimes exhibit the properties of waves, at other times those of particles.”
- Werner Heisenberg
“Duality is always secretly unity.”
- Alan Watts
Everything in the universe has an opposite and opposites are interconnected and interdependent. Everything is dual. All dualities are one and the opposites meet. They are all just different levels of the same thing. Darkness is a lack of light. Hate is a lack of love. Polarity forms one axis of the game field.Rhythm
“Modern physics had shown that the rhythm of creation and destruction is not only manifest in the turn of the seasons and in the birth and death of living creatures, but is also the very essence of inorganic matter. For modern physicists…Shiva’s dance is the dance of subatomic matter.”
- Fritjof Capra
Everything in the universe is subject to cycles of change and the universe is in a state of constant movement and flow. The vibrations go up and down on the axes of their polarities, in the eternal universal rhythm. Existence can be comprehended as the music of the mind.Cause and Effect
“Each of us can manifest the properties of a field of consciousness that transcends space, time, and linear causality.”
- Stanislav Grof
“Karma exists within causality. It is three-dimensional. Free will exists outside of causality; it is not bound by karma.”- Frederick Lenz
Every action has an appropriate reaction. What we call luck or accident is just an unknown cause. When a mage becomes free from the will of others and starts to be a conscious cause in his own universe, he stops being an initiate and becomes adept. Seed the causes in your mind and reap the effects in your life. Break free from the chains of causality by making them work in your favor.Gender
“Mystics understand the roots of the Tao but not its branches; scientists understand its branches but not its roots. Science does not need mysticism and mysticism does not need science, but man needs both.”
- Fritjof Capra
“All things carry yin and embrace yang. They reach harmony by blending with the vital breath.”
– Laozi
Magnetic attraction and electric repulsion. Kiki and Bouba. Yin and yang. Creation and destruction. Everything in the universe has both masculine and feminine qualities and the manifestation of these qualities determines the nature of the thing. Mages are both mystics and scientists. Masculine love or feminine love? A difference in kind as opposed to a difference in degree. Gender forms another axis of the game field. It has nothing to do with sex and everything to do with creation.
These principles are the basis for mental alchemy - the inner transmutation of lead into gold. By using them, you can remove or attract anything. Transmutation of unwanted into the wanted. Everything is packets of information changing according to the laws. Your mind can either be dragged by them or surf on top of them.
The key is to learn and use the rules of the game to your advantage. The sheer fact that you have now read them gives you a head start over most others - since they don’t even know the rules, much less are aware of the game they are playing.
Knowledge is power.
There is also a so-called 0th principle - the principle of attention. The principle of creation. This law is a dynamic of observation. What you observe, exists. What you pay attention to day-to-day is the base that forms your habits and acts as a driving force for your thoughts and actions. Attention defines the player.
Attention is therefore the ultimate generator of the quality of our experience. What you pay attention to you create.
The ultimate start of our mind.
