Retrocausality: The Arcane Dance of Time
Today, we venture into the realm of time again, exploring an interesting concept I have read a lot about recently - a concept that challenges our conventional understanding of causality - retrocausality. This idea, deeply rooted in modern physics and echoed in ancient wisdom, suggests that the future can influence the past, that effects can precede their causes.
Wild, I know.
In the world of quantum physics, experiments like the delayed choice quantum eraser have hinted at the possibility of retrocausality. This experiment, which involves a photon deciding its behavior based on a future event, suggests that time might not be as linear as we perceive it to be.
There is also this huge meta-study that shows that humans are capable of, reliable, measurable, albeit not very strong short-term precognition.
In his book "Time Loops: Precognition, Retrocausation, and the Unconscious", Eric Wargo delves deeper into this concept, exploring how our future selves might influence our present decisions and actions. He suggests that our unconscious mind is constantly in dialogue with our future, shaping our present in ways we are yet to fully understand.
The universe exists as a block space. At certain moments, we just take glimpses of the “outside” of time. In dreams, in changed states of consciousness, and when faced with intense emotions.
But this idea of retrocausality is not just confined to the realm of quantum physics or psychological theories. It also finds resonance in the ancient wisdom of hermetic and shamanic magic.
In hermetic philosophy, the principle of correspondence - "as above, so below; as within, so without" - suggests a similar concept. It implies a timeless, interconnected universe where the past, present, and future are intricately linked. Similarly, in shamanic traditions, practitioners journey through non-ordinary realities, transcending the constraints of linear time, healing past traumas, and even influencing future events.
All forms of divination belong here too.
And lord knows, my experiences are so consistent with this. Many times, it was like intense feelings were seeping from the future. I felt intense emotions and didn’t know why - until the reason why actually happened. I have experienced synchronicities beyond counting - and especially after and - which is of course even stranger - before psychedelic experiences.
In my divination sessions, I have seen "accidents” so astronomical it was… well… magical. Reality is just far, far stranger than we are led to believe.
So, what does this mean for us, fellow mages? Retrocausality invites us to reconsider our perception of time and causality. It suggests that we are not merely passive observers, carried along the river of time. Instead, we are active participants, capable of influencing the flow of events, of reaching back into the past and forward into the future.
In our quest for understanding, let us draw wisdom from both modern science and ancient magic. Let us explore the dance of time, the interplay of cause and effect, and the dialogue between past, present, and future. And in doing so, let us remember that we are not just bound by time, but are timeless beings, capable of transcending the linear flow of moments.
Until next time, keep seeking, keep questioning, and remember - the magic is within you, and it transcends the boundaries of time.
