The Book of Lights: Healing Spell 1
(This one is dedicated to Shannon, who inspired this whole series)
As you may or may not know, the witches traditionally use a so-called “Book of Shadows” to write their spells in. Well, I do something similar, except I call it the Book of Lights. In this new series, I will guide you through some of my favorite spells in detailed “how-tos”.
In the intricate world of magic and healing, crafting a spell that resonates with your intentions and the universe's energies can be a profoundly transformative process. Whether you're a seasoned practitioner or a curious novice, this guide will walk you through a powerful healing spell, designed to bring wellness and balance to yourself or someone you hold dear.
Before You Begin: Divination and Timing
Divination: Start by consulting the Tarot, I-Ching, or your preferred method of divination. Ask about the necessary steps for improving health, whether it be yours or someone else's. This can highlight overlooked aspects or confirm your intended approach.
Timing: Plan your spell for an hour of the Sun on a day of the Sun, as solar energies are potent healers. Other beneficial planetary hours include Jupiter, Mercury, and Venus, each offering unique supportive energies.
Side note: Planetary Power transits
(feel free to skip this)Sun Conjunct Jupiter: This optimistic and expansive aspect is excellent for any healing work, as it brings a sense of growth, abundance, and well-being. It amplifies positive energy, making it easier to manifest health and vitality.
Moon Trine Neptune: A harmonious aspect that enhances intuition and emotional understanding, making it ideal for emotional and spiritual healing. It's a great time to connect with your inner self or the higher power you believe in for guidance and healing.
Venus Sextile Mars: Balances feminine and masculine energies, promoting harmony and well-being. It's beneficial for healing relationship issues or for balancing aspects of oneself.
Mercury Trine Chiron: Facilitates healing conversations, either with oneself or with others. It's an excellent time for therapy, journaling, or any form of communication that leads to healing and understanding.
Jupiter Sextile Pluto: Offers deep transformational energy that can be directed towards healing. This aspect helps in overcoming deep-seated issues and finding the power within to heal and regenerate.
Sun Trine Chiron: Illuminates healing pathways and brings attention to areas that need healing. It's a supportive aspect for self-discovery and using one's personal experiences as a source of strength.
New Moon in Pisces or Virgo: New Moons are always a potent time for setting intentions. In Pisces, the focus is on emotional and spiritual healing, while in Virgo, it emphasizes physical health and practical healing methods.
Full Moon in Scorpio or Taurus: Full Moons are times of culmination and release. In Scorpio, the focus is on deep emotional healing and letting go of psychological baggage. In Taurus, it brings attention to physical health and the release of unhealthy habits.
Setting the Stage: Preparations and Altar Setup
Sacred Space: Choose a quiet place where you won't be disturbed. Wear clean clothes for the ritual; these need not be exclusively magical garments but should be washed after use to maintain their purity.
Altar Arrangement: Gather items associated with healing and place them on your altar. Suggested items include the Star, Temperance, and Two of Cups tarot cards, symbolizing hope, balance, and union, respectively. Incorporate runes like Fehu, Uruz, and Kenaz, either as objects or drawn on paper to serve as talismans. Clear Quartz, Amethyst, and Jasper crystals amplify healing energies, while white and green colors (for clothes and altar cloth) evoke purity and growth.
Herbs and Oils: Use Camomile tea for purification before the ritual and consider a herbal bath with salt for additional cleansing. Prepare hyssop oil by steeping hyssop in olive oil for three days, shaking it daily, and then strain it.
The Ritual: Invoking Healing
Create a Protective Circle: Perform the Lesser Banishing Ritual of the Pentagram (LBRP) to purify the space and protect against unwanted energies.
Meditation: Sit facing east, calming your mind for ten minutes. Visualize a golden light of healing energy, supported by the collective goodwill of those who wish you well, including deities, saints, and all beings aligned with healing.
Invocation: Call upon a healing spirit or deity, such as Sekhmet in her healing aspect, to aid your spell. Personalize this invocation to fit your relationship with the spiritual guide you're working with.
Anointing the Candle: Carve the name and a simple representation (like a stick figure or sigil) of the healing recipient on a white candle. Anoint the candle with the hyssop oil, affirming, "With my healing touch, with the sacred oil, you are healed."
Lighting the Candle: As you light the candle, declare, "By the sacred fire, you are healed," infusing the act with your intent and energy.
Sealing the Spell: Conclude with the phrase "I create as I speak," or "Abracadabra," if it resonates with you, to seal the spell with your words of power.
Psalm Recitation: (Optional) Recite Psalms 91 and 103, or any other verses of your choice that call upon protection and healing, to enhance the spell's effectiveness.
Closing the Ritual: Perform another LBRP, then formally close the circle. While not necessary, allowing the candle to burn down completely can symbolize the full realization of the healing energies.
Post-Ritual Practices:
After the spell, it's important to ground yourself and cleanse the space once again. Reflect on the experience, and trust in the process initiated by your spellwork. Remember, the essence of magic lies in intention and connection—aligning your will with the supportive energies of the universe to manifest healing and well-being.
Love,
Felix
